Hello to all.... Today Santa said hello to the following dogs: 3 German Shepard's (all at one time), 2 Basset Hounds - an adult and a 3-month old (I held the 3-month old), a Toy Poodle, and a Golden Lab.
We also had 443 people come through Santa's Lap. I had the privilege of holding and calming a young mentally/physically challenged teenager. Her parents advised me not to do it due to her being kind of wild, but I was willing to take the chance. The father placed the teen in my lap, and after a very short twisting and turning she calmed down. I talked to her calmly and she settled down (people forget that I am warm and soft, and the "Talent" after all). The parents asked for a picture, and shortly afterward they had her back in her modified wheelchair.
With the longer days now in full swing it is nice that Santa has a bunch of Elves that like to have fun just like Santa. With the long shifts you need to do things to catch people off guard, surprise them, get a smile from the workers (and usually the public watching). I said yesterday that you need to pick the kids you mess with carefully...and it is true when you use them in the jokes. I have not found a kid that did not like to go along with a fun thing as long as it was short. More on this another day.
Today I had a surprise from the Elf that looks like she has no hair. She slipped off her hat to show me she did have short hair after all. Plus it was a tad longer than a Marine's. The Elves are getting together to make cookies, I hope they remember Santa.
Well 6am is coming earlier these days, so I'm off to the land of slumber.
Santa Joe
